The New South Wales Institute of Technology was founded in 1964, and that year marked the beginning of the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). The institute purchased the Sydney College of the Arts School of Design on January 25, 1988. On January 26, 1988, the University of Technology, Sydney Act was approved, rebranding the institution as UTS. The Kuring-Gai College of Advanced Education, the Institute of Technical and Adult Teacher Education, and UTS were finally combined on January 1st, 1990 to create the current institution. The public research university currently participates in the Australian Technology Network, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, and the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAIHL) (ATN).
On the southern entrance to Sydney's Central Business District, the UTS campus is located. Its primary academic and administrative structures are divided among three nearby precincts. The buildings for health, science, the arts, and social sciences, as well as design, architecture, and construction, are located in the Broadway precinct. The UTS Library and the Faculty of Law are located in Sydney's Old Market neighbourhood and are part of the Haymarket precinct. The UTS Animal Logic Academy, Building 15, the Dr. Chau Chak Wing Building, and UTS Startups are also housed there. The Blackfriars Children's Centre and other office buildings are located in the Blackfriars precinct. Around Sydney, there are numerous additional unique UTS facilities, including those at Moore Park, Botany, and the Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick.

Anh Do is a well-known Australian comedian and actor who has acted in the films "Thank God You're Here" and "Good News Week." Actress and model Charlotte Best starred in "Home and Away." The Australian version of "Dancing with the Stars" is co-hosted by television host Sonia Kruger. A skilled journalist, Joel Labi has worked for Reuters, CNN, and 2GB. The co-vice captain of the Australian cricket team is Pat Cummins.
