Northern Manitoba's catchment region for the University College of the North (UCN) is about the size of France. With 12 regional centres and two larger campuses, UCN can handle its sizable student body, which is made up of more than 70% Indigenous students.
Students who love the outdoors will feel perfectly at home on one of UCN's two main campuses. One of the purest lakes in North America, Clearwater Lake Provincial Park, is close to the Pas campus. The Thompson campus is surrounded by the boreal forest and Canadian Shield. The wolf capital of Canada is located in Thompson.
As well as a range of degree, diploma, certificate, and trades programmes, UCN also provides academic upgradability and apprenticeship programmes. Education, nursing, carpentry, culinary arts, welding, and other fields are covered in the programmes. A four-year bachelor's degree programme in nursing is offered in collaboration with UCN and the University of Manitoba and emphasises a community-based approach to healthcare.
