About Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec)

 

In 1924, the Waikato Institute of Technology, or Wintec, was founded as Hamilton Technical College in the Waikato region. The institute expanded and began offering a variety of vocational training programmes, and in 1968 it was renamed Waikato Technical Institute. In 1987, the institute's name was changed to The Waikato Polytechnic as the scope of its academic activities grew.
