When Kingston University London was first established in 1899, it offered programmes with concentrations in chemistry, electric wiring, building construction, nursing, dressmaking, and clay modelling. The Board of Education recognised it as a technical college in 1926. The university changed its name from Kingston Polytechnic to Kingston University in 1992.
The university has campuses in and near Kingston, England. Additionally, it has campuses in Friars Avenue and Crammer Terrace in London. The University's free inter-site bus service connects its Penrhyn Road campus, Kingston Hill campus, Kingston School of Art at Knight's Park, and Roehampton Vale campus.
Due to the presence of two mainline train stations, numerous bus routes, and significant highways, every campus is easily accessible. Additionally, both Gatwick and Heathrow airports are conveniently accessible from the campus via road and public transportation. The institution is divided into four faculties: the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing, the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education, and the Kingston School of Art. Each university faculty provides undergraduate and graduate courses in particular streams.
All of these faculties also do research in fields of study that are closely connected. According to a report from December 2018 that was posted on the university's official website, there were 16,499 students enrolled, 3,158 of them were international students. Each faculty has state-of-the-art equipment. World-class facilities are available at the Kingdom School of Art, including a digital media workshop, a hackspace, a moving image workshop, a photography workshop, and printmaking studios. The Scene of the Crime House, Learjet Lab, and Centre for Augmented and Virtual Reality settings are just a few of the facilities that the Faculty of Science, Engineering, and Computing maintains.
The school has a list of famous graduates. Actor Ben Barnes, American model, actress, and journalist Angie Bowie, actress Jessie Cave, and Hong Kong actor Sam Chan are among the university's alumni in the entertainment and film industries. Artist and illustrator Eileen Aldridge, Turner Prize contender Fiona Banner, photographer Richard Bryant, product designers James Irvine and Jasper Morrison, and sculptor David Nash are among the graduates in the arts industry.
