The University of Derby is a public university founded in 1851 in the town of Dieby. It used to be called the Derby College of Art and Technology or simply the Derby College. It originally was established as the Derby Diocesan Institution, a teacher training institution. In 1992 h it has gaine university status .
The university is known worldwide for its excellent teaching and has therefore been awarded the prestigious gold rating in the Framework for Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes and a top 30 UK Universities in the Guardian University Guide 2020

The main campus of the University is in Derby City. The largest and most important campus on Kedleston Road in Allestree, north west of Derby, serves as the headquarters of the University. It is just next to the A38 and opposite the park of Markeaton. Derby Campus houses most university courses.
