In 1845, the president of the Republic of Texas signed the charter to officially establishing Baylor University. The university is the state's oldest continually operating educational institution. It is a prestigious private Christian university. It consists of 12 academic colleges and schools. The university holds the accreditation of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC). Also, many programmes offered by it are approved by various relevant professional bodies and organizations.
