In the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Carnegie Mellon Institution is a private, global research university. In 1900, Andrew Carnegie started the institution as Carnegie Technical Schools, and in 1912, it became Carnegie Institute of Technology, which offered four-year degrees. It was merged with the Mellon Institute of Industrial Research to form Carnegie Mellon University in 1967. It has since evolved into an international institution with campuses in Silicon Valley, Africa, and Australia, as well as overseas campuses in Qatar, Africa, and Australia.
