Illinois' Governors State University is a state-funded institution located in University Park. It is also within 30 minutes' drive of cities such as Kankakee, Joliet, and northwest Indiana. The main campus is situated on 750 acres of land with several lakes and nature trails and a lush landscape. GSU has the schools of Business, Arts and Sciences, Education, and Health and Human Services, among others. The university has been authorised by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The business programmes are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, whereas the public administration programmes are authorised by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration. Additionally, the college is a member of the Illinois Council for Baccalaureate and Higher Degree Programmes.
Students can choose from over 22 bachelor's, 27 master's, and 4 doctoral programmes. Additionally, the university offers 22 certificate programmes. Accounting, computer science, information technology, elementary education and teaching, business administration and management, liberal arts, biology, criminal justice, psychology, health administration, and social work are the most popular majors at Governors State University. All programmes at the university have received professional accreditation and are recognised by their respective professions. Eighty-five percent of the faculty at this institution hold a Ph.D. or the highest degree in their field, and the average class size is fewer than thirty students.
The Honors Programme encourages students to participate in a curriculum designed to enrich their academic experience. Halvorson served as the delegate for Illinois's eleventh congressional district from 2009 to 2011. Sheryl Patrice Underwood is an actress, entertainer, and television host from the United States. She first rose to prominence in the comedy world as the leading female finalist in the 1989 Miller Lite Comedy Search. Another notable graduate is Jerry Butler Jr. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. He is an American politician who is also a lyricist, producer, musician, and soul artist.
