Grand Valley State University was founded in 1960 as a public university. It follows a semester-based academic calendar. It is immediately outside the Grand Rapids metropolitan area, Michigan's second-largest metropolitan area. Despite being one of the top 100 universities in the United States by enrollment, Grand Valley strives to make liberal education the foundation for all of its academic programmes.
During an event called 'Grounds Life Night,' freshmen are introduced to over 400 student clubs, allowing them to explore the many options for extracurricular activities. Around 5% of the undergraduate population is involved in Greek life, and there are over 20 different sections to choose from. The Grand Valley State Lakers compete in NCAA Division II as members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The university's sports success goes unnoticed, and it has earned the Director's Cup as the best NCAA Division II athletic programme in the country several times. Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services, Health Professions and Related Programs, Communication, Journalism, and Related Programs, and Psychology are among the most popular majors at Grand Valley State University.
