The University of Arizona is a public research university. It was the state of Arizona's first university, having been founded in 1885. It is also an elected member of the Association of American Universities, and the only representation from Arizona in this group. The University of Arizona, which is governed by the Arizona Board of Regents, offers a welcoming and engaging environment that encourages students to pursue their dreams. The Center for World University Rankings placed the University of Arizona 34th in the United States and 52nd in the world in 2017.
The park is 380 acres in size and is located in the heart of Tucson. It is separated into quadrants, with the Mall separating the north and south sides of the campus, and the Student Union Memorial Center and Highland Avenue roughly separating the west and east sides. There are over 600 multi-cultural, philanthropic, intellectual, athletic, social, and student clubs, as well as campus organisations, at the University of Arizona. Around 51 fraternity and sorority chapters are recognised.
