About University of California, Santa Barbara

The University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) has a long history dating back to the Anna Blake School. The school was founded in 1891 and provided instruction in industrial arts and home economics. In 1909, the state took over the school and renamed it Santa Barbara State Normal School. It was renamed Santa Barbara State Teachers College in 1921, and it began expanding its liberal arts programme.
