Fanshawe's eight-month, in-class or online Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program can help you discover a new in-demand career. Available 100% online or in a traditional in-class format, our program is flexible enough to suit your busy lifestyle.

As a student, you'll work within a project-based, software intensive format that is focused on building a foundation in GIS, with the flexibility to focus your studies in your area of expertise. You'll have access to our cutting-edge technology that will help you develop skills in remote-sensing, object-oriented programming, spatial analysis and modelling, digital photogrammetry, web map/ GIS and CAD skills.

In addition to the many valuable skills you will learn in the classroom, you'll have the opportunity to participate in the cooperative education aspect of the program for a four month period with an associated GIS based employer. As part of this program, you can be placed doing GIS work with government agencies, GIS software employers, and other private industry companies that use GIS technology. Upon graduation, students have been hired as GIS specialists, GIS applications programmers or developers, spatial database specialists, GIS researchers, among others.

Graduates will enter the work force as GIS Specialists, GIS Applications Programmers or Developers, Spatial Database Specialists, GIS Analysts, GIS Researchers or in many other related occupations. Placement opportunities include positions in the GIS software industry, government agencies, and any private industry using geo-spatial technologies.
