Arts & Cultural Management in MacEwan University

Built on a theory-to-practice model that includes classroom discussion, individual and group projects, guest speakers, case studies and an eight-week practicum, the Arts and Cultural Management program provides you with a practical balance of academic course work and hands-on experience.

To complete program requirements, you take three types of courses: required core courses, Arts and Cultural Management option courses based on your areas of focus and elective courses that allow you to explore other interests.

In our two-year diploma program, you learn the practical skills and specialized knowledge you need to enhance an organization's creative capacity. Our instructors, who are leaders in the local arts and culture sector, will help you gain a deeper understanding of cultural policy, build your leadership potential and learn how to develop audiences and resources. Add hands-on assignments, case studies and an eight-week field placement to your academic experience and you will leave the program prepared to organize, supervise and lead in the arts and culture sector.

At Allard Hall, you work alongside student-artists who are passionate about acting, singing, sculpting, painting, dancing and performing. Here you will mingle with—and be inspired by—the people you will be advocating for, managing and supporting when you enter the workplace.

The career paths open to arts and culture administrators are many and varied—and you are prepared to succeed in all of them. Special event coordinator, arts fundraiser, theatre manager, festival marketing coordinator, museum programmer, art gallery education coordinator. Our generalist curriculum provides you with skills and knowledge that can be applied to diverse roles and opportunities.

In this program, you learn to manage people and plan events. You gain skills in preparing contracts and writing grant proposals. You discover the challenges faced by the creative, not-for-profit sector—and how to meet those challenges head on. You learn about the importance of cultural policy development. It’s no surprise that 90 percent of our graduates find work in the creative sector.
