The Apparel Technology Diploma has two majors: Fashion Apparel and Costume Cutting & Construction. This program equips students with the industry knowledge as well as engineering and construction skills to turn concepts into high-end apparel for the fashion or performing arts industries.

Using state-of-the art industrial equipment and processes, students will be prepared to enter the workforce with the knowledge and ability to make an immediate impact in the industry. If you have the desire to use your creative abilities in a fast-paced work environment, our 2-year Apparel Technology program offers two majors: Costume Cutting and Construction, and Fashion Apparel.

What will you learn?

The Apparel Technology program has two majors; Costume Cutting and Construction, and Fashion Apparel. In the first year of the program, all students will learn basic apparel construction, clothing history, pattern design, textiles, and workplace communication and professionalism. As students move to the second year, they will have a schedule that will help build skills dedicated to the major they select.

Majors

Costume Cutting & Construction Major - This major allows you to immerse yourself in the upbeat and dramatic field of the performing arts where you thrive in wardrobe departments. You will use problem-solving skills to interpret designs in order to draft patterns and construct costumes while operating industrial equipment. A broad range of courses will nurture your commitment to educational excellence as you learn about history of clothing, textiles, and the particulars of period costumes for both women and men. Your learning will culminate with a practicum experience where you will work as part of the wardrobe department to create the costumes for an actual theatre production. Completion of the program, to specified standards, also allows you to apply for the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (I.A.T.S.E.) permittee card for the theatre and film union. Prepare yourself for the role of a lifetime as you work with seasoned professionals from the performing arts industry.

Fashion Apparel Major - The Fashion Apparel major is the perfect fit if you are passionate about understanding the technical aspect of creating clothing. Highly reputable instructors will support you as you develop knowledge and skills in the areas of technical drawing, pattern engineering and apparel construction. Students explore both manual and digital methods of drawing and drafting and operate standard and specialized industrial equipment. Focusing on women’s wear, you will experience a variety of of apparel types, using both standard and custom sizes, and will progress from novice level garments to advanced pieces such as gowns and a tailored jackets. A work experience opportunity will further expose you to a variety of career opportunities in the industry.

 fashion designer, seamstress, theatre and event costume designer, fashion sales representative, retail buyer or merchandiser, textile designer, personal stylist, uniform designer and mascot designer.
