Office Administration & Technology in Selkirk College, Canada

Office Administration & Technology in Selkirk College

Program outcomes interrelate as themes emerge through courses: organization, teamwork, professionalism, communication, and computer competency. The courses complement one another and are presented in a progressive pattern, allowing the students to build on their knowledge and practice skills to enhance learning throughout the program.  All courses are, however, independent of one another. Students could elect to enrol in one or more courses (qualifying through skills assessment) without completion of the certificate.

The Office Administration & Technology program will give students competency in touch typing, computer applications such as Word and Excel, accounting fundamentals, professional document production, various communication skills, interpersonal and employability skills, and a broad overview of the office environment. Office technology is utilized throughout the program to provide hands-on practical experience.

Students wishing to further their knowledge and specialize in their field as a specialist should complete a Bookkeeping Advanced Certificate. This includes a capstone courses to further develop decision-making, prioritizing and critical thinking skills. A two-week practicum is also scheduled for the advanced students, completing their studies with the opportunity to apply skills and knowledge acquired in a workplace environment.
