Business Psychology Master: Your studies in Cologne and Mainz

In business, people take on many roles. Sometimes they are consumers; sometimes they are employees. Every role has its own actions and reactions, and no matter how digitized or globalized economy is, people always interact with one another in the end. The intertwining of business and psychology is gaining importance in many areas in order to predict and control people’s behaviour. Business psychologists research and analyse mental and economic processes, establish relationships between causes and effects and make recommendations for action accordingly. When it comes to your career later on, do you see yourself as a specialist, a leader or in a management position in the field of business psychology? The Business Psychology Master’s programme at CBS International Business School offers you this opportunity, because it enables you to make successful decisions in a highly demanding work and market environment – based on psychological competence.

Interdisciplinary with strong economic ties

The German-language Master’s programme in Business Psychology at CBS International Business School is interdisciplinary and combines psychological and business management subjects. A first academic degree in the field of economics (i.e. Bachelor’s degree) is the prerequisite for admission into this programme since many of the course contents are based on general business knowledge. Courses of study also include traditional business administration courses such as Strategic Management, Change Management, Business Law and Global Sourcing. And of course, Applied Business Psychology with its business psychology research and trends is an essential part of the study.

Marketing and advertising psychology

Marketing is a major area for business psychologists. In the first semester, you will deepen your knowledge about market research as well as marketing and advertising psychology and communication. Later, you will broaden your knowledge in the area of user experience, where for example, user concepts for online shops, apps, etc. are developed according to psychological aspects – a highly topical subject.

Strong practical orientation

Practical projects integrated into the study programme ensure the implementation of theoretical learning contents in specific fields of application. To do this, you must complete a minimum eight-week internship. The Career Services Office will be pleased to assist you with your search for an employer. You write your Master’s thesis in the fourth semester, for example as a project at a company or during a semester abroad at one of our partner universities.

Career opportunities at a glance

A Master’s degree in Business Psychology offers a wide range of career opportunities in middle and senior management of HR departments, in organisational development, at recruitment agencies, corporate consultancies, market and trend research providers, in change management, and within marketing and product planning departments. In addition, you will learn all the basics to become self-employed as a consultant or coach. A further academic career including a doctorate is also open to you.
