GMIT has invested some €650,000 in energy systems including a dedicated undergraduate laboratory, used to enhance students’ understanding of the operation of conventional and renewable energy systems.
Did you know that:
- Energy Demand: IEA’s World Energy Outlook predicts global energy demand will increase by 33% between 2011 and 2035.
- Environment: Energy related activities account for 60% of Ireland’s greenhouse gas emissions.
- Energy Targets: In 2015 the EU agreed to raise its renewable energy generation capacity from 20% in 2020 to 27% in 2030.
- Energy Efficiency: SEAI’s large Industry Energy Network comprises 180 Irish companies with a combined energy spend of €1.2 billion, all employing dedicated energy managers to reduce energy costs and CO2 emissions.
- Renewable Energy: Ireland will generate at least 12% of its energy requirements from renewable sources by 2020, up from 4% in 2005. Denmark will reach 34% by 2020.
