Fashion & Textiles For Product & Costume – Higher Certificate in Limerick Institute of Technology
What is the programme about?
This unique 2 year Higher Certificate in Design in Fashion Knitwear and Textiles offers students the opportunity of training in fashion knitwear design and production within the clothing /garment sector and also knitted textile design and production, focusing on areas beyond fashion and clothing, i.e., accessories for fashion, interior accessories and fine art textiles. A BA in Fashion Knitwear and Textiles is in development which will offer students a pathway to progress from the Higher Certificate programme. The programme offers students the exciting prospect of placement and the opportunity to work on live, collaborative projects within the knit industry sector. The popularity of Knit as an option within the existing BA in Fashion Design programme is evidenced by previous successes of Fashion students in recent knit competitions. e.g., RDS Competition in Knit and Crochet (2011) Persil Fashion Awards (2010 and international Feel the Yarn and Mittelmoda competitions. Graduates who have specialised in knit include Orlaith O’Connor and Katarzyna Wypych who have shown their graduate knit collections in Shanghai (2010) and Washington DC (2010). However, there is an increased demand for the knit specialisation in Fashion at both Irish and international level, and this programme aims to meet this growing need
Class Contact Hours
