The intention of this course is to instill scientific rigour in the endeavour to propose improvement in the area of specialisation. This course will acquaint the student with skills pertaining to dissertation preparation and presentation methodology. In particular, the students will acquire skills in the research, augmentation, evaluation, presentation, defence and scientific procedure of the selected field. The presentation shall consist of the student's appraisal of a subject area relate to that of the dissertation.

The course shall be offered in areas of study in which the Faculty can offer expert guidance and supervision and subject to the availability of resources as determined by the Departments of Intelligent Computer Systems.

Students are required to write a dissertation based on work of an advanced or original nature carried out by them. The dissertation will include the students` findings and conclusions presented in a scholarly manner.

Applicants interested in pursuing an M.Sc. by Research with the Department of Intelligent Computer Systems are to consult with academic staff members of the department before submitting their application in order to agree upon a research proposal. Applications received without such a proposal will not be accepted. If required this process may be coordinated by contacting the Head of Department.

Learning outcomes

The student will be able to demonstrate acquired expertise, define hypothesis, define originality, expound ideas and defend them through evaluation and orally.

Course intended for

This course is intended for students who have completed the Bachelor's degree within an ICT area and who now wish to pursue specialization within this or a related ICT area. This course in not intended for graduates from non ICT disciplines. This course shall be offered in areas of study in which the Faculty can offer expert guidance and supervision and subject to the availability of department’s resources.

Career opportunites and access to further studies

On completion of the course, students will have the opportunity to either pursue a research career in academia, or within other Research and Development establishments, or be eligible to more lucrative career opportunities and career growth paths within the ICT industry.
