The main aims of this programme are to develop in students:
• an in-depth understanding of a specialised area of chemistry;
• the ability to plan and carry out experiments independently and assess the significance of the experimental outcomes;
• the ability to adapt and apply research methodology to the solution of unfamiliar problems;
• a critical awareness of advances at the forefront of the chosen specialised area of chemistry;
• a skills base from which they can proceed to professional employment or to further studies in chemistry or multi-disciplinary areas involving chemistry at doctoral level.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the programme students will be able to:
• select appropriate techniques and procedures;
• plan, design and execute experiments
• work independently and be objective in the evaluation of risks, experimental procedures and presentation of results;
• assess the limitations of the accuracy of experimental data in order to plan future experiments;
• carry out a research project and produce results which are potentially publishable;
• communicate and interact with professionals in the chemical sciences and other disciplines.
