Take your passion for cooking to the next level, where you will build on the knowledge and techniques developed in the Certificate in Cookery (Level 4) and gain the expertise required for progression as a chef in the hospitality industry.
In this course you will develop advanced cookery skills as well as administrative and kitchen management skills from running a commerical kitchen to creating original menus. You’ll get to visit a New Zealand food supplier to see where some of the food or ingredients you work with comes from and gain invaluable industry experience with a five week internship in a highly-ranked restaurant.
All Cookery graduates from NZMA will have the opportunity to pathway with the International Management Institute (IMI) in Luzern, Switzerland, to complete an internationally recognized qualification from an institute that is ranked 12th in the world for hospitality training. Students will also have the opportunity to receive work experience through their excellent network of contacts in the industry, including the Ritz-Carlton, Marriot, Fairmont, Intercontinental, Four Seasons, and Disney – just to name a few.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
DOMESTIC STUDENTS
- You need to be at least 17 years old.
- Have a New Zealand Certificate in Cookery or Baking (Level 4), or an equivalent qualification.
- Or have three years' relevant and current industry experience.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
- You need to be a minimum of 18 years old at the start of the course.
- Have completed secondary school overseas or New Zealand Year 11 from a New Zealand TEO) or have equivalent work experience.
- If English is your second language, you need an English level of 5.5 IELTS or equivalent with no band score lower than 5 (other English tests or evidence of your English language ability may be approved as advised by NZQA).
- You must have travel and medical insurance and a valid visa.
Academic qualification equivalents
- All India Senior School Certificate or Higher Secondary Certificate/Standard 12 or Indian School Certificate (Year 12) as recognized qualifications
English language requirements (one of the below):
- IELTS:5.5 (Academic), with no individual band less than 5.0
- PTE:50
