The degree will equip you with the knowledge and skills required to understand why crime and criminal justice have become defining issues for contemporary society and attained such a prominent position in popular culture.

The course develops students' appreciation of the complex interplay between local and global forces and their relationship to socio-legal transformations, with particular reference to life in the 21st century metropolis of London.

Objectives

The BSc (Hons) Criminology degree draws on the expertise of academics experienced in investigating a variety of topics including: crime, policing, victims, media representations of crime and youth crime.

The course considers how:

  • Crime is defined
  • How criminality, victimisation and crime control relate to social issues such as class, gender, ethnicity, politics and the economy
  • Why crime and justice have become defining issues for contemporary society.
