Sport And Exercise Therapy Bsc (hons) in Coventry University
On this course you will learn to assess trauma, attend to injuries, provide sports massage and create rehabilitation programmes.
Accredited by the Society of Sports Therapists (SST), this course examines the musculoskeletal system, exercise physiology, treatment and rehabilitation skills with an emphasis on performance incorporating sports science principles. On completion, you are eligible for full SST membership allowing you to practise as a Sports Therapist in a wide variety of settings.
With access to a dedicated Sports Therapy Clinic, you’ll learn in fully-equipped sports therapy suites, and physiology and biomechanics labs, which feature gold-standard equipment such as Alter G treadmill, Isokinetic Dynamometry, bod-pod and Vicon 3D motion analysis. We have partnerships with a number of local sports clubs and clinics to facilitate hands-on experience, including Coventry City, Leicester Lions, Old Silhillians RFC, Bury FC and Wasps.

This course prepares you for a range of employment opportunities as a Sports Therapist.
Containing a mix of practice and theory, you will learn to critically analyse scientific information and evidence, gaining a sound understanding of the techniques and methods required by sports therapy practitioners.
Career prospects
Accreditation from the Society of Sports Therapists means that on graduation you will be qualified to work as a sports therapist with professional teams, clubs or private clinics. Alternatively, you can access appropriate additional training to support professional football and rugby.
The course includes a substantial amount of sport science, which can allow you to move into other careers in the leisure and sport area, such as management or service delivery in sport and leisure centres. If you are more interested in the medical and health applications of exercise science, you could go on to work within cardiac and other rehabilitation teams within the National Health Service (NHS) or with local councils within sports development or exercise for health schemes.

Graduates from this course have gone on to work in sports therapy clinics, sports teams and into teaching. You’ll also be able to pursue a career in exercise management and rehabilitation or as a physiotherapy assistant.

Others have continued with postgraduate study on courses including the MSc Strength and Conditioning and MSc Manual Therapy.
