Economics BA Hons in Lancaster University, UK

Economics BA Hons in Lancaster University

An understanding of economics gets to the heart of how the world works. Through our flexible programme, embedded within our wide-ranging Management School and delivered by high-quality researchers recognised for their teaching with the TEF Gold accreditation, you will tackle important questions: What makes some countries richer than others? How does society fund social care? Why are footballers paid so much?

Economics is highly-prized by employers in the private and public sectors, and we provide you with both the theoretical knowledge and practical application you need for your future career. Our degree weaves theory and evidence into policy analysis, allowing you to understand fundamental issues and topical concerns in the real world. Our place within the Management School provides a close relationship with other business disciplines and access to businesses and employers.

You don’t need an Economics A level, as we start from first principles, looking at issues in the real world. Our degree weaves theory and evidence into policy analysis. This allows you to understand fundamental issues and topical concerns.

The flexible BA Economics structure gives students a broader appreciation of key issues in society, by combining Economic analysis with insights from the other Social Sciences. In your first year, you will also choose one subject from the Social Science subjects Politics, International Relations, History, or Sociology, and another subject from a wide range of options. You will continue with your study of social science throughout your degree.

In the second year, you will progress to topics such as Micro and Macroeconomics, and Quantitative Methods, which provide many of the analytical tools used in Economics, along with some economics options and one full unit from the social sciences.

Your final year sees you choosing six modules in economics and two in the social sciences. We offer a wide range of Economics modules, from Public Economics to International Trade and Health Economics, so you can tailor your studies to suit your aspirations, taught by expert researchers working at the cutting-edge of the field throughout.

We are proud of our aspiring economists and aim to nurture your potential. You will have support from our careers team, which includes a dedicated departmental careers coach who works with you from day one, helping with internships, placements and graduate employment. We will supply training in CV writing, interview assessment centres and telephone interviews, helping you with your future career ambitions.
