Environmental Health | Bsc (hons) in Leeds Beckett University

Course Details

With a responsibility for protecting public health and upholding the maintenance of healthy environments, environmental health practitioners play an important role in society. On this course, which is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, you will examine complex environmental health problems and learn how to formulate effective solutions. These solutions could involve enforcement, education or the issuing of advice while working in partnership with other agencies. You will be taught by environmental health practitioners experienced in key areas such as food safety and health and safety.

Course Benefits

You will study food safety, health and safety, housing, environmental protection and public health. You will be taught in our state-of-the art science laboratories and acoustic facilities - this hands-on learning approach will allow you greater interaction with your lecturing staff and a greater understanding of the subject matter.

You will also have the chance to achieve professional registration with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH). In order to do this you must undertake work experience, and meet the CIEH professional requirements. Work experience may be with a local authority environmental health department, or a relevant company in the private sector.

If you are a part-time student in relevant employment, you may have the opportunity to transfer to full-time study for the final part of the course and complete your studies in five years, instead of six.  This is possible because attendance requirements are lower due to part of your workload being project work, but is dependent on a full-time place being available, and your employer being willing to grant you additional study time.
