Innovation And Skills For Social Change | BA (hons) in Leeds Beckett University
Course Details
Do you want to change the world? This is a unique course aimed at students who want to develop high-level skills and capabilities to undertake important roles to help transform society. If you are interested in leading and creating projects, innovations and approaches that make a difference to communities locally or around the world, then this course is for you.
It will introduce you to a wide range of social issues affecting people globally, such as poverty, inequality, mental health and sustainable development, and you will explore how they affect society, the planet and people's chances in life. You will develop the skills to identify unmet needs and you will learn how to tackle the root causes of social issues, whilst helping communities to develop their capacity to contribute effectively to social change.
You will investigate the hidden strengths, opportunities and challenges within communities, and you will work alongside experienced practitioners and people with lived experiences, experimenting with different ways to help transform society for the better.
In your final year, you will examine how to change the systems that can prevent people from progressing in life. Using approaches such as co-creation, systems change, frugal innovation and inclusive innovation, you will work with fellow students and collaborate with communities and organisations to design or strengthen ideas that can lead to sustainable social change.
You will learn how to develop viable social business models and you will gain the skills to measure and improve the outcomes and impact of social projects and innovations, and to articulate the difference they make to society and to people's lives.
