The course will provide you with a solid grounding in the fundamentals of engineering. You’ll then develop the specialist knowledge required to work on the design and analysis of road vehicles, marine vehicles and rail vehicles. You’ll also explore the supporting technology, such as automation, control systems and advanced technology. And using contemporary software, techniques and materials, you’ll be supported in developing the analytical skills and practical engineering design skills that are sought after in this fast-growing industry.

You’ll study the key concepts underpinning the design of vehicles, ranging from yachts and powerboats to trains and supercars. Along with this you’ll explore some of the technology behind advanced systems, such as automation and control, and advanced materials, including carbon fibre composites.

You’ll also learn about the important environmental aspects of future transport engineering and green transport design. This will help you respond to the challenge of making transport more environmentally friendly as emissions targets continue to increase.

Learning is hands-on, with a mix of lectures, tutorials and practical sessions. You’ll have full access to our engineering laboratories which include an advanced manufacturing and robotics workshop, composite material laboratory, CAD suites and towing tank.
