WHY STUDY THIS COURSE?
- The course is accredited by professional body.
- The team supporting the teaching and learning consists of academically and professionally qualified engineers. As well as teaching and learning activities, they are engaged in Scholarly Activities, Knowledge Transfer and Academic Research.
- Part-time students already working in the industry leave our course with a competitive edge and full membership of professional bodies.
- Full-time students go on to find careers in consultancy, design, contracting, project management and maintenance, team leading, and research and development with local authorities, manufacturers and equipment suppliers.
- Students benefit from three residential workshops: Local, USA ASHRAE Conference and Hong Kong. The international workshops offer students experiential advantages that can contribute to their profession and experience.
- The course emphasises on sustainable Building Services design and management. Students will carry out project work, which will facilitate dialogue between the Engineer and other members of the design and management team. It is the development of novel technological and engineering solutions within the often contradictory constraints of sustainability, safety, economy and energy efficiency, and the law which pose the challenge in the course.
- You will learn how to apply modern, sustainable and energy-efficient engineering systems in built environments.
- The course is a good start for engineers wanting to continue their academic development by studying a higher degree and/or other professional qualifications.
- This course is accredited by CIBSE, preparing you to gain Chartered Engineering (CEng) status and is also delivered and validated by us in Hong Kong, VTC.

OPPORTUNITIES
As a full-time student you’ll be encouraged to spend an optional 48-week sandwich placement in the industry (between Year 2 and 3) in roles such as CAD operator or draughts-person. Using the optional placement year furthers your professional knowledge and increases your employability.
Our course is delivered and validated by UCLan at universities in Hong Kong, Singapore and Athens. Students may have the opportunity for overseas trips – in recent years we have taken students to Hong Kong for a week on exchange and also to the ASHRAE conference in the United States.
A concrete design experience as well as operation and maintenance, can boost your opportunities for career development, whichever qualification route is followed. With the arrival of the new sustainable building design concepts such as intelligent buildings, natural lighting design and renewables, new career opportunities can open up for alternative specialisms.
