Journalism is a global profession, and this course prepares you for an international career. You will learn multimedia reporting skills that enable many of our graduates to walk straight into jobs in journalism around the world, in print, digital media and broadcast.

You will also learn how to think, to communicate and find your place in a globalised world, opening up many other graduate careers. Students can learn about working with NGOs, and constructive journalism.

This holistic approach to journalism, combining the professional, academic and organisational aspects, produces graduates who can do the job but also understand where their job fits into the bigger picture.

This is a flexible course, designed to allow you to focus on the things that interest you and to customise your studies. Recent graduates are working at the BBC, South China Morning Post in Hong Kong, China Daily in Beijing, the Angolan Embassy in Lisbon, and in many other journalistic and public relations roles.

OPPORTUNITIES ON THE COURSE

Work experience is an essential part of the course and students are very much encouraged gain experience in a range of news organisations, both in the UK and overseas. Recent placements have included the BBC World Service, the Times of India, the South China Morning Post and the Times of Israel. You'll also have the chance to assist world-leading researchers as paid undergraduate research interns.

International Journalism students, particularly, are encouraged to study part of their course abroad. There is a wide range of exchange programmes available, to dozens of countries, in Europe, Asia, North America and Australia. Students have studied in Canada, the United States, United Arab Emirates, Korea, the Netherlands, Denmark, Spain, Australia and China.
