Train to teach physical education and sport on this extended degree and benefit from being at a London university that has fantastic sports facilities on site and sport-related work placements.
Our physical education and sport extended degree course starts with a foundation year to prepare you for degree-level study. After your first year, you will study the same modules as on our three-year course. You will learn the principles of teaching and coaching, giving you the opportunity to flourish in your chosen specialism of athletics, gymnastics, swimming, dance or games.
The course is taught at Avery Hill Campus, home to our extensive sports facilities and where most of our student sports take place. Physical education placements form an integral part of this degree and our strong partnership with Charlton Athletic FC provides students with internship and employment opportunities.
What you should know about this course
- This four year programme is identical to the three year course, but has a foundation year with lower entry requirements
- If you have the ability but not the qualifications, this programme is your first step to graduation
- The foundation year includes academic writing, computing skills, introduction to the subject and more.
Careers and placements
What sort of careers do graduates pursue?
Dedicated courses in Year 1 and Year 3 prepare students to enhance their employability for PE and sport-related careers. In addition, work placement opportunities are built into each year of the programme. Graduates are equipped to work in a variety of roles within the sports and leisure industry. Graduates are also well placed to apply for teacher training, for example, via a PGCE programme leading to Qualified Teacher Status.
