Speech and language therapy provides vital support and treatment for people who have difficulties with communication.

Putting people with communication difficulties at ease lies at the heart of this course, but practice and theory are just as important. You'll study psychology, linguistics and phonetics, and gain a critical understanding of communication and other speech and language disorders.

Our degree in speech and language therapy is designed to provide students with the skills they need to successfully start their career. This course is run in collaboration with Canterbury Christ Church University.

  •  This course is fully approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), which will allow graduates to register with the HCPC as a speech and language therapist.
  •  The curriculum observes the statutory and regulatory requirements of our professional bodies whilst reflecting both national and local requirements through regular contact with local speech and language therapists in practice.
  •  Study subjects from a range of disciplines, such as psychology, child development, linguistics and phonetics, anatomy and physiology in addition to speech and language therapy frameworks.
  •  Three placements across three years help you gain practice-based skills alongside experienced speech and language therapists.

What sort of careers do graduates pursue?

We expect graduates would be able to pursue careers as speech and language therapists. Careers in the NHS, in education, and in social care settings, such as learning disabilities services are expected. There are a small number of jobs in justice settings.
