Our extended tourism management degree will give you the skills in marketing, management and enterprise that you’ll need to succeed in this buoyant industry.

Our extended tourism management degree is identical to the three-year degree but includes a foundation year to prepare you for the rest of your study.

In Britain, around 2.6 million people work in the tourism industry, and it's one of the world's fastest growing business sectors. This course will give you a thorough understanding of tourism marketing, human resource management, innovation, product development and destination management, preparing you for a range of tourism careers. The Erasmus+ student exchange programme is also currently part of this course.

Our graduates take up roles in tourism marketing, tourism policy, destination management, and tour operator businesses. They also launch their own tourism enterprises.

Careers and placements

Will I have a work placement?

Work placements are optional, and you are responsible for arranging your placement with support from the university.

Previous students on the three-year course have secured a placement year at Sandals Resorts International and Premier Inn.

How long is my placement?

Work placements are 9-12 months of full-time paid work. You take this between the second and third years of study.

What are the financial arrangements?

UK placement annual salaries range between £13,000-£18,000 pro rata. Some charity / voluntary work organisations offer travel costs and lunch expenses in lieu of a full salary.

What sort of careers do graduates pursue?

Graduates from this course have the same career opportunities as those graduating from our three-year BA Hons Tourism Management course. Their skills and knowledge make them highly employable in areas such as tourism marketing, tourism destination management and tourism policy. 

Graduates will also be attractive to tour operators and tourism businesses because of their specialist knowledge and transferable skills, and they will be confident in launching their own tourism enterprise.

Are internships available?

Internships are optional, and last for a minimum of six weeks. Gain a Certificate in Professional Practice and valuable employment experience before graduating.
