The Chemistry MSc is for students who have already studied Chemistry BSc (UK 2:1 equivalent) and would like to develop their depth of knowledge and learn additional skills in order to become professional chemists.

The 12-month course runs from September and consists of a taught component and a major research based project totalling 180 credits.

Students take 90 credits of advanced Chemistry modules in semesters 1 and 2, chosen from a wide range of topics. Most modules offered are at M-Level although up to 30 credits at level 3 can be taken.

Alongside these taught modules in semesters 1 and 2, students start to gain relevant research skills by taking a common 30 credit module, PGSC003 Introduction to Research, tailored to suit their particular background and research area.

During the summer, students undertake a substantial 60 credit research project PGSC004, working in an active research group. The project will be carried out in an active research group within one of the main research areas of the Department, including; Energy and Catalysis, Materials Chemistry, Medicinal and Bio-nano Chemistry, Functional Interfaces or Theoretical and Computational Chemistry.
