Games Art BA (hons) in University of Northampton

Our Games Art programme focuses on the visual side of the Games industry. You will be introduced to the key points in the creative process, from storyboarding through to character and environment design. The university also has a Computer Games Development programme meaning Games Art students can work with programmers to produce commercial quality games.

Course Details

You will focus on the visual side of the Game Art industry, but you will be exposed to the whole life cycle of game production from the initial ideas process to final release stage. You will work with programmers from the BSc Computer Games Development course so that you understand games development for specific markets in 2D and 3D formats.

We will give you creative skills, technical software skills and industry knowledge, which are all required by leading games developers. You will produce a personal portfolio of your work to reflect industry and professional practice needs, informed by historical and contemporary references, cultural and social contexts.

Methods of Learning

Your teaching will take the form of practical activities, group work, assignments, seminars and written assessments.

Assessments

Assessment is a mixture of studio based design projects (continual assessment), portfolio development, and written assignments. At each stage there will also be a joint group project with students from the BSc Computer Games Development course, resulting in a fully developed game.
