Theatre in University of Reading

Film, theatre and television are crucial in shaping the way we understand our place in the world. At Reading, we chart the development of these three major cultural forms from the early twentieth century into the digital age.

We provide you with the opportunity to look at current critical debates in these disciplines related to innovative research in the Department. You will specialise in an area of academic enquiry that interests you or develop your own area of practice through research.

Teaching is undertaken by leaders in their fields, with strong links to industry and practitioners. You will also receive one-to-one supervision on your dissertation/practice-as-research project.

We will equip you with key analytical and interpretative skills, practical expertise in film and theatre production, and a wide range of transferable skills.

Make use of our £11.4m purpose-built facilities, which include a cinema, three theatres, a suite of cutting rooms, specialist sound editing and recording facilities, and a fully equipped studio for film and television production.

At the University of Reading, we pride ourselves on our subject-specific collections and extensive library resources, and our ideal location – 30 minutes from Reading to London Paddington by train – means that we can run regular trips to London, which are integral to a number of the taught modules.
