Building Surveying Accelerated in University of Salford

Building Surveyors look at the pathology of buildings, focusing on opportunities for refurbishment, reuse, development, restoration, repair, or conservation. As our growing cities adapt to the changing needs of the 21st century, studying building surveying can unlock some rewarding career roles that help to revolutionise old properties for exciting new purposes.

Delivered over two years, you'll follow a series economic, legal, technical design and management modules, exploring the relationship between a building and its internal and external environment.  A gateway to professional status, our accelerated BSc (Hons) Building Surveying course is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), so you'll be educated to the highest industry standards.

The accelerated route includes the same content as our standard undergraduate honours degree, but it is delivered across three trimesters rather than two semesters. This more intense mode of study means that you can complete your degree in a shorter period of time, so you're ready to progress more quickly into work or further study.

Salford is a great choice for building surveying. We’re consistently ranked in the world top 100 universities for architecture and built environment study (QS 2019), located at the heart of the largest property and construction market outside of London. With our industry-focused learning approach, you’ll visit local projects and receive live briefs that enhance your real-world knowledge and understanding.

If you're already in employment, we also offer a day release route that can fit around your current commitments.

You will:

  • Build knowledge and skills to describe, explain, evaluate, and apply building construction techniques
  • Learn to identify and use appropriate strategies and technologies applicable to building surveying practice
  • Develop an understanding of the interactions between a building and its internal and external environments
  • Gain the ability to identify symptoms and diagnose defects found in a diverse range of building types
  • Explore urban regeneration so you can participate in future sustainable regeneration initiatives
