Tourism Management With Professional Experience Year in University of Salford

The BSc Tourism Management course blends classroom activities with exciting field trips and excursions that demonstrate how the theories you learn as you study are applied by tourism professionals. You will explore how tourism attractions are set up and managed, and see this in action in visits to a number of different attractions.  You will study at our Salford campus close to Manchester city centre but as part of your degree you will also take part in an international field trip funded by Salford Business School to see how Destination Management Organisations develop and maintain successful tourism destinations.

Wondering if Tourism Management is for you?  Sophie Barton studied on this programme and says:

“The thing I love most about my degree is that is it so diverse.  Each module consists of something different which will help you in your career, including event planning, giving presentations and group work.  The degree also helps you in personal ways such as improving your confidence and your professional development.”

Because employers tell us the importance of customer service skills, you will be given the chance to shadow employees who deliver front line customer services. You will also have the opportunity to learn about current and future issues that are shaping the tourism industry such as the development of technology like augmented and virtual reality as well as Smart Cities.  To ensure you are fully up to speed with current affairs in the tourism industry, you will attend the Manchester Tourism Conference as a delegate to attend talks and workshops.

A further opportunity for Tourism Management students comes through our partnership with TAMK University in Finland. Through the dual award option, you have the chance to apply to study part of your course at Tampere University of Applied Sciences and graduate with two degrees.  Tobias Reynolds did it; watch the video below to hear about his experiences.

You will:

  • Learn the key principles of business management
  • Understand how to analyse, develop and manage a tourist destination
  • Learn the issues, concepts and strategies that shape sustainable tourism management practices
