OVERVIEW

Our Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting) will prepare you for 21st century Health Visiting practice and entry to the third part of the professional NMC register. While studying, you will acquire the theoretical knowledge and practical experience required to promote and improve the health and wellbeing of:

  • families
  • communities

The PgDip leads to both an academic award and professional qualification. It consists of equally distributed theoretical learning and practice based experience and is designed to take into consideration the health care needs of children, families and communities currently within the UK.

Professional Approval and Accreditation

The PgDip is professionally recognised by the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and developed in line with the NMC's Standards of Proficiency for Specialist Community Public Health Nurses. Our PgDip is also accredited through Unicef UK Baby Friendly, with the standards implemented across the programme.

COURSE DETAILS

Our course leads to both an academic award and professional qualification. It consists of equally distributed theoretical learning and practice based experience within the six core modules. Each module takes into consideration the health care needs of:

  • families
  • communities

For the award of Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) and professional registration, you are required to complete six, 20-credit, core modules (120 credits):

  • Consolidation of Practice (core, 20 credits)
  • Contemporary Health Visiting (core, 20 credits)
  • NMC Leadership for Effectiveness (core, 20 credits)
  • NMC Responding to Public Health Challenges (core, 20 credits)
  • Research for Health & Social Care (core, 20 credits)
  • Safeguard Children, Enable Families (core, 20 credits)

On completion of our course you will be eligible for employment at a specialist practitioner level. You will have competency in:

Further Study

Our course will prepare you to continue your studies; successful completion of a research and enquiry-based dissertation will allow you to exit with MSc Health Studies (Community Health).
