year 1

This module will consider the ways in which systems of the body interact in order to maintain homeostasis. You will be introduced to the anatomy and physiology of the human body and the organisation of body structures and systems. The module will also consider communication systems within the body and the protective and survival mechanisms that work together to maintain a 'healthy' state. Aim: To introduce you to the anatomy and physiology of the human body, its body structures and systems.

year 2

This module will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to undertake academic study, including an introduction to academic writing, referencing, critical thinking skills, reflective practice, and searching for appropriate evidence and literature. The module will also provide an introduction into research methodologies and help you to evaluate literature in order to inform your clinical practice. 

year 3

The aim of this module is to provide you with further opportunities to apply learning from your study at the university into the real world environment. You will continue to work with the university’s partner Ambulance Services to hone your skills under the supervision of a mentor but there will be additional placements in an Operating Department, Obstetric Unit, Children’s Ward, Emergency Department, Mental Health Unit and End of Life/Palliative Care unit. These placements will help to remove the unpredictability of ambulance work and ensure that you receive exposure to certain patient groups and have an opportunity to practice some skills that are less frequently encountered in the ambulance service placement

year 4

The aim of this module is to provide you with opportunities to apply learning from their study at the university into the real world environment. You will undertake placements in walk-in-centres, minor-injuries units, community nursing teams and clinics for long-term conditions as well as with the university’s partner Ambulance Services. These placements will offer you the chance to work under the supervision of practitioners skilled in the management of patient’s presenting with minor illnesses and injury as well as those with long-term conditions. Towards the end of the placement, you will be placed back into the ambulance service so that you can demonstrate your competence in all aspects of paramedic practice.
