Sports And Exercise Therapy Bsc (hons)/msci in York St John University

Through a combination of academic study and practical investigation you will learn to prevent, treat and rehabilitate soft tissue injuries. You will also build the ethical and social awareness needed to work in this field. Together we will consider how to decide when an athlete is ready to return to play after an injury - an issue which is hotly debated by players, coaches, medical professionals and the media. We approach sports therapy and injury rehabilitation from various perspectives, as you learn to manage and prevent injury at all levels of sport.

By training in sport therapy you will learn to help athletes perform better, recover faster and train more effectively. We are committed to making sure everyone has opportunities to benefit from sport, regardless of background, age or ability. You will have the chance to work with a variety of people throughout your degree, including those using exercise rehabilitation, individuals living with dementia or cardiovascular problems, and professional sports people.

We work with an extensive network of sports clubs and organisations, giving you the opportunity to gain work experience and carry out research in sport settings. These community partners also contribute to your learning, with a guest lecture or case study from an industry professional on every module.

This course can be studied as a 3 year BSc (Hons) or as a 4 year MSci. If you choose the 4 year option you will graduate with a Masters level qualification. You can make this choice at any point during your degree.

Choosing this option means that you will:

  • Stay for an extra year, gaining even more skills, knowledge and experience
  • Be guaranteed a professional placement as part of your course
  • Have more opportunities to build professional connections and increase your employability
  • Leave with a postgraduate MSci instead of an undergraduate qualification, without needing to reapply for a new course.
