On this course you will cover essential aspects of business management, while also addressing concerns specific to tourism and destination management. You will learn about business functions that apply to any sector, such as:

In your tourism modules you will learn about industry structure, culture, policy and social responsibility. We take an international and intercultural approach to the study of tourism, exploring a global phenomenon which is continuing to grow and diversify. As you study you will develop your understanding of tourism organisations, their management and the external factors affecting it.

Our location in the centre of a thriving tourist destination offers many advantages. We have links with tourism organisations across the city. This includes a strong partnership with Visit York, who are responsible for the destination management of the city. Regular visits from guest speakers who share their industry experience will also enhance your learning. You also have the option to expand your international experience by studying abroad.

The Tourism Management Institute (TMI) is the professional body for destination management. You also have the opportunity to gain professional accreditation from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) alongside your degree.

As with all of our Business courses, you have the option to go on a placement year between years 2 and 3 of your degree. You can also choose to study abroad for a semester at one of our partner universities.
