General Computing in Michigan Technological University
Digital transformation is everywhere and choosing the right computing major can feel overwhelming. General Computing at Michigan Tech allows you to start on a path where you can combine cutting-edge knowledge and skills with a solid theoretical foundation to develop the skill set that will help you tackle the computing challenges tomorrow is sure to bring.
General Computing gives you a semester (or two) to decide which BS degree program is the best fit for you and your goals. It's a starting point to give you space to choose the major that’s right for you while you complete introductory classes and stay on track for graduation. When you do find your perfect fit, you can seamlessly transition into that degree program.
Your cohort of first-year general computing students will attend the same sections of foundational courses. In your computing classes, you'll be on a team with three to four other students. Your team will become a study group, a research group, and a peer support network. Additionally, academic advisors and professors will always be there to help, and periodic check-ins and meetings with your advisor will help you and your team stay on track.z
