Sociology in Ohio Northern University

When you major in sociology, you have unlimited career options. Employers in every field – business, government, education, health care and more – seek out people who have special insights into our world and our behavior. At ONU, we’ll expose you to many possible career paths and help you find one you’re passionate about.

The sociology program includes challenging and innovative courses in criminology, health and health care, social theory, research methods, and data analysis. Many courses include strong research and writing components. You’ll also build teamwork, communication, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills with lab work and hands-on experience in the field.

Large institutions just can’t provide the individualized attention and opportunity you’ll find here. Our sociology majors mentor juvenile offenders and assist professors with research. They study abroad and intern at social organizations and mental health institutions. They work with national datasets, lead student organizations, and present their research at regional and national conferences.

From the time you arrive on campus until you graduate, you’ll be guided by a faculty advisor. You’ll enjoy small class sizes and amazing friendships with your fellow sociology majors. Our dedicated professors will get to know you. They will support you in your coursework, research, internships, and post-graduate or career preparations. They will become personally invested in your success and open doors for you.

Upon graduation, you’ll be ready for whatever the future holds – whether it’s attending graduate school or embarking on a job in your field of interest. The field is truly wide open!
