Rehabilitation Medicine in Saginaw Valley State University

The Rehabilitation Medicine program welcomes students with a quality education which accents field research in rehabilitation practices in order to encourage a higher caliber of patient care. As students majoring in the program grow in their abilities and gain confidence with each experience, they engage in one-on-one connections both in the classroom and in the field. In addition to their rich and varied curriculum, students learn to recognize, assess and manage patients with the help of their strong educational foundation.

Graduates from this program don’t just live in their communities, but actively serve them. Many of our students are engaged in faculty-mentored research, attend and present at regional, state and national conferences, participate in simulated lab activities, complete seminar courses with hands-on learning and have the option for an internship course prior to graduation.

Courses within the major offer a strong foundation in Kinesiology with an emphasis on anatomy, physiology, exercise, strength & conditioning, therapeutic modalities and musculoskeletal examinations. Students not only learn to recognize the components of a general medical examination and patient diagnoses, but they also help to determine the proper plan of care for each case.

Following completion of the degree requirements, students exhibit educational competencies and clinical proficiencies required for professional graduate programs in a wide array of fields such as, but not limited to, athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician’s assistant, chiropractic and orthotics/prosthetics.
