Finance in University of North Texas

In the Department of Finance, Insurance, Real Estate and Law (FIREL), we teach you how to successfully manage all financial aspects of a firm, understand its regulatory rules and realize how it fits into the financial market. Many students work full time and bring unique perspectives and experiences to the classroom.

Our comprehensive curriculum allows you the flexibility to explore areas such as:

  • Corporate financial management
  • Corporate law and risk management
  • Derivative securities, stocks and bonds
  • Employee benefits programs
  • Life insurance
  • Management of financial institutions
  • Personal financial planning
  • Real estate investments

You'll develop a strong foundation in business by taking courses in accounting, economics, marketing and management in addition to studying finance. Tutoring in all undergraduate finance courses is provided in the Finance Academic Assistance Lab.

You may also earn course credit and gain valuable experience by completing an internship with a company or an organization.

Our faculty members exercise a "learn today, apply tomorrow" classroom philosophy. They're experts in their field, dedicated teachers and recognized scholars who provide a solid theoretical background and practical, applicable knowledge that can be used immediately.

You can apply your classroom knowledge to real-world situations by participating in the Student Investment Group. This group is open to all students and manages an investment portfolio of more than $500,000 under the supervision of a faculty sponsor. The Financial Management Association C. Steven Cole Chapter assists students in developing the skills needed for a successful career in finance or business through guest speaker and networking opportunities with business professionals, résumé and interviewing workshops and other activities.
