The University of Illinois at Chicago was founded in 1982 as an open research university. It is affiliated with the Universities Research Association and Great Cities Universities and is noted for operating the largest medical school in the United States. In 1946, the Chicago Undergraduate Division was established as a temporary branch. This branch has around 4,000 students enrolled. It was then turned into the University of Illinois, which is currently known as the University of Illinois. Owings, Walter Entsch, and Merril, located in Chicago, designed the university.
